An introduction to the SEN Global takes us back to the year 1906 when a British trader Thomas Elque founded Elque & Company in Calcutta, India, with financial help and partnership with an Indian landlord S. N. Sen.
Originally SEN Global was involved in the trading & finance of imports and exports between India and other countries of the British Raj or Commonwealth. The Company took up agencies figured as a key area devoted to gearing the fishermen to tap the vast coastal fishing resources of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Seas.
With the retreat of the British Raj from India the country saw an emerging market towards |
the supply andexport of Indian food products to Europe for which a taste had been created over five centuries of invasion and trade with India by the Anglo-Europeans. This prompted the foundation of the first manufacturing and processing plant for mango chutney and condiments in the year 1965 to cater exclusively for the new export markets generated. |

As the fishing industry in India developed over the years, the vast coastal and deep sea fishing resources were being tapped adequately with the help and consistent supply of the required fishing tackles and accessories in which the company played an active and devoted role.There came an abundance and over supply of landings of food from the sea which was far beyond the domestic consumption. It was at this time that the company recognised the need for creating infrastructure for fish preservation and to begin the search towards newer markets internationally. In the year 1972, Calcutta Seafoods was founded with the view to preserve fresh and to make available quality seafoods for consumption in the world markets.

The Company prompted by its experience in trading, finance, manufacturing & international marketing from this stage on continued unabated to pursue every opportunity that arose and in the process created a very diverse range of partnerships under the umbrella of the SEN Global.
Today, SEN Global is a vertical integrated organization comprised of businesses, subsidiaries, suppliers & customers located around the globe. The affiliations of SEN Global work in harmony to form a system of business based on the philosophy and policies established by our founder, generations ago. |
